Toktogul refit raises capacity to 1,440 MW
Each of the four generating units now delivers 360 MW instead of 300. The Minister of Natural Resources reviewed the work at the Lower Naryn switchyard and the National Dispatch Centre.
The Minister of Natural Resources, Chingiz Asanov, on Saturday reviewed the completed refit of the Toktogul hydropower complex, whose capacity has risen from 1,200 MW to 1,440 MW. The last of the four refitted units returned to service in September.
The minister visited the switchyard and the National Dispatch Centre in Lower Naryn District and met members of the joint technical commission of the Naryn Water and Power Protocol, with the Uzbek, Kazakh and Kyrgyz observer delegations present.
“Toktogul is a shared asset, and it has been improved in a shared way,” the minister said. “More capacity does not mean a different water schedule. The Protocol sets the schedule, and the machines simply serve it better.”
The additional output gives grid operators more room at the winter peak, when export demand is highest. A joint load test of the units will be held before winter, with results reported to the commission and the observer delegations.
