ISEZ economy grew 1.5 per cent in 2024

Beef exports from the Talas valley and steady refinery output put growth ahead of the government's spring forecast.

The economy of the Irad Special Economic Zone grew by 1.5 per cent in 2024, ahead of the forecast published by the government last spring.

Stronger beef exports from the Talas valley feedlots and steady throughput at the Nurzhan Oil Refinery offset softer cotton prices and higher costs for remittances routed through Almaty.

“The som has held its peg, our exporters have found buyers, and investment keeps coming to Talas,” said Azamat Temirov, chairman of the Bank of Irad.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor will present the budget for the coming year to the Mejlis next month.
